May 1, 2014 – Shat-R-Shield announced the issuance of US Patent No. 8,697,458 which relates to the application of protective coatings over Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) and other light sources that are mounted on printed circuit boards.
“This latest patent makes claims for the process and material used to form a sealed protective barrier for mounted LEDs” said Tom Salter, VP of Marketing and Product Development at Shat-R-Shield. “We are committed to developing and providing protective lighting solutions”.
The patent covers the technology used to protect and maintain the long life of LEDs against harmful contaminants. This process allows Shat-R-Shield’s proprietary non-yellowing optically clear coating to be applied over the top of LEDs with negligible impact to the lighting properties.
In addition to protecting the LEDs, this process adds protection for all the electronic components and exposed circuitry. This can help prevent premature failure of the PCBA that can be caused by moisture and other types of contaminates. The coating is ideal for situations where printed circuit boards are used in high moisture, outdoor applications and harsh environments. It offers excellent protection, insulation and mechanical strength.
